Abstract:
The health assessment of marine ecosystems serves as a crucial safeguard for implementing integrated land - sea management and supporting the sustainable development of coastal economies. In previous studies on the regions for ecosystem health assessment, the water bodies were often treated as homogeneous. Insufficient consideration was given to the environmental differences among various types of water bodies such as estuaries and bays. As a result, it is difficult to reflect the impact of spatial heterogeneity on the results of ecosystem health assessment. Therefore, it is urgent to establish a reasonable zoning method. Based on domestic and foreign literature and relevant documents, this paper reviews the research progress of marine ecological zoning methods at home and abroad. On this basis, drawing on the concept of water body classification in the EU Water Framework Directive, a zoning model for marine ecosystem health assessment that couples the key zoning factor N and other factors X is initially proposed for different environmental types of water bodies such as estuaries and bays. The new ideas for the refined management of the health of coastal ecosystems.
