Abstract: |
Maxillipius rectitelson Ledoyer, 1973: 32, pls. 4, 5: 1986: 819, fig. 320; Thomas, 1996:316.
Material: Linchang Reef and Meixia, Hainan Island. 27♂♂, large body 2. 8mm in length; 46♀♀, large body 2. 6mm in length. Collected from littoral zone.8-11, April, 1992.
The present female specimens are similar to those described by Ledoyer(1973, 1986).The males were found for the first time by the present author.
There are 27 male specimens in my collections. The male body is similar to female in main structures; but sexual dimorphism in the antenna 1 was found in the males. The male antenna 1 is similar to that of Maxillipius commensalis Lowry (See Thomas, 1996),in having a callynophore on the 3rd peduncular article, which could differentiate the Genus Maxillipius from Maxillipides in the family Maxillipiidae.
Male antenna 1 shorter than antenna 2, peduncular article 1 longer than wide, terminal margin with short setae; peduncular article 2 slightly short, length subequal to width; peduncular article 3 slender, subequal to twice of peduncular article 2 in length, outer lateral side with an elongate triangular prosses(called callynophore by Thomas), extended to near terminal end of second flagellar article, lateral sides with long aesthetascs;flagellar article 1 elongate, with 5-6 small internal articles; flagellum slender, 23-articulated, each article longer than wide, without aesthetascs. Peduncular article 5 of antenna 2 longer than peduncular article 4, flagellum 15-articulated.
The species differs from Maxillipius commensalis Lowry by coxa 2 bearing blunt anterior margin, by the carpus and propodus of gnathopod 1 being broad and short, by the collynophore of male antennal being long and bearing more aesthetascs.
The present species is recorded for the first time from China Sea.
