南海中尺度涡对深层流调控作用的个例研究

摘要:
南海深层环流作为印太海域热盐环流的重要组成部分,研究其时间变异特征具有重要意义。中尺度涡作为南海极为活跃的动力过程,有观测显示其影响深度可超过2000 m。本文结合海表面高度计资料与潜标观测资料,识别南海区域中尺度涡,并分析了中尺度涡对深层流场以及温度场的影响。针对三个中尺度涡的潜标实测结果表明:在涡旋经过时,海洋深层流动有明显的变异,表现在速度、温度方面,速度变化值能达到5.5 cm/s,温度变异能达到0.02℃。涡旋经过时,海洋上层、深层流向呈相反态势,第一斜压模动能显著增强。

CASE STUDY ON REGULATION OF MESOSCALE EDDIES TO DEEP CURRENTS IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA

Abstract:
As an important part of the thermohaline circulation in the Indian-Pacific Ocean, it is important to study the temporal variability characteristics of deep circulation in the South China Sea. As an extremely active dynamic process in the South China Sea, mesoscale eddies have been observed to affect depths of more than 2000 m. In this paper, we identify the mesoscale eddies in the South China Sea using altimeter data and mooring observations, and analyze the influence of mesoscale eddies on the deep ocean velocity and temperature. It shows that the deep current below 3500 m has obvious variability in velocity and temperature when these three eddies passed through, with the velocity variation reaching 5.5 cm/s and the temperature variation reaching 0.02℃. The effect of anticyclone is more significant than that of cyclone. When eddies passed, upper and deep currents flow in opposite directions and kinetic energy for the first baroclinic mode enhance obviously.
