Abstract:
Macroalgae are among the leading suppliers of bait and habitat. However, the interplay between macroalgae and seaweed bed invertebrates must be better understood, limiting an in-depth understanding of macroalgae ecosystem service functions. For this study, 12 water stations and three intertidal stations were established in the mussel culture area of Gouqi Island from August 2021 to April 2022, and the sampling survey of macroalgae and seaweed bed invertebrates was carried out over four quarters. Using the Linear Mixed Models (LMMs) and Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to fit the biomass of macroalgae and seaweed bed invertebrates functional groups. The contribution rate of each algae functional group to the seaweed bed invertebrate community was analyzed using glmm.hp package. The results showed that although the influence of canopy algae on phytophagous group in the mussel farming area showed a very significant linear relationship, every increase of 100 g of canopy algae could only increase 1.76 g of phytophagous group, and the energy conversion between the two was less than the law of one-tenth of energy conversion in nature. The effects of intertidal canopy algae on detritivorous group and planktophagous group are significant but nonlinear. The role of macroalgae in recruiting species to use food supplies is limited, while the role of macroalgae in habitat supply may be more prominent. Red algae, mainly coralline algae, are better habitat providers for detritivorous group and omnivorous group. In this study, the impact of macroalgae on seaweed bed invertebrates in different habitats on Gouqi Island was quantitatively analyzed based on multiple models, providing a new perspective for optimizing macroalgal resource management and formulating corresponding conservation strategies.
