ON THE QUATERNARY GEOLOGICAL PROBLEM OF CHANGJIANG (YANGTZE RIVER) DELTA REGION |
|
Abstract: |
Based on paleomagnetic measurement, micropaleonotologic analyses and sediment characteristics of De-1 and De-2 cores located in a water depth of about 30 m in the East China sea, as well as analysis data obtained from Yancheng, Qionggang,Qidong, and Jiadin cores situated on coastal region of Huanghai sea and Changjiang delta region. On the Quaternary geologial problem of the Changjiang delta region we come to the conclusion that: the Holocene deposit mainly consists of brown, greybrownish clay and silt, but the late Pleistocene is characterized by greyish sand, coarse sand deposits. So we consider that the Holocene sedimentary environment is different from that of the late pleistocene. Otherwise, near modern Changjiang delta region there must had been a bigger lake in the late Pleistocene. The so-called Nanhui group of beds (Shanghai region) characterized by grey-greenish clay should prove the existence of such a bigger lake in the late Pleistocene. |
