HYDROLOGIC ANALYSIS OF THE DEATH OF SCALLOPS IN SEA AREA OF CHANGSHAN ISLAND IN SUMMER
Abstract:
The death of a large amount of Scallops cultivated in sea areas of Changshan Island of northern Huanghai Sea took place frequently in summer. Thie paper shows that the main cause of the death of scallops should be the violent variation of temperature of sea water. In summer, the thermocline would generally be formed in sed area of northern Huanghai Sea, Climaxed in months of July and August. The thermocline at its depth would rapidly vary with time, making the daily variation of seawater temperature up to 6-7℃ at the same layer. Because the location of the thermocline would rapidly up-down flucturate, the layer in which the cultivation scallops framework was laid would be in such a rapid change of the upper and lower bounds of the thermocline, so that the temperature of surrounding sea water, in whihc the scallops lived would rapidly rise and fall. Although the scallops could to a great extent acclimatize themselves to the surrounding temperature, it is difficult for the to survive shch violent variation of temperature.
