The relation between effective accumulated temperature and gonad development period of scallop, Argopecten irradians
Abstract:
Argopecten irradians is one of the most important clam species cultured in China. We reseached the histology of its gonad develepment and the relation between periodic variation of histology with gonad development and effective accumulated temperature. The gonads were fixed with Bouin's solution, and tissue sections were stained with H·E solution. Taking micrography pictures is to show the gonad development. The results showed that: when the biology zero-point is below 6.6℃, the gonad was at a resting stage; when the water is 14℃, effective accumulated temperature is 171℃, the gonad index was 8.59, the gonad was in a multiplication stage. When water temperature is 15℃ and effective accumulated temperature is 216℃, the gonad index was 11.49, the gonad was at a growing period. When water temperature is 17℃ and effective accumulated temperature is 267℃, the gonad index was 15.85, the gonad was at a matureity period. When water temperature is 21℃ and effective accumulated temperature is 446℃, the gonad index was 17.99, the gonad was at a sprawing period. This paper discussed the influence factor on gonad development of A. irradians.
