Abstract:
Algae, as favorite sources of marine secondary metabolites, contain rich kinds of bioactive compounds. The bioactive screen of ethanol extract of five marine algae, which were collected from Naozhou Island, the South Sea of China, was designed to search for bioactive compounds. The algae include one green alga Chaetomorpha basiretorsa Setchell and four red algae Acantophora spicififera (Vahl) Boerg, Laurencia tristicha Tseng, Chang et Xia, Asparagopsis taxiformis (Delile) Trevisan and Pterocladia tenuis Okam. A standard MTT method was used for testing cytotoxicity of ethanol extracts against human cancer cell lines KB, Bel-7402, PC-3M, Ketr3 and MCF-7. The inhibitory activity of extracts against Na+,K+-ATPase was carried out on an enzyme mode. The inhibitory activity of extracts against dog vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation was also screened by the MTT method. Some extracts showed moderate bioactivities.
