The morphological taxonomy on genus Halothrix (Choradariales, Phaeophyta) from China seas |
|
Abstract: |
The specimens of genus Halothrix obtained from China coasts during 1998~2003 were investigated, Four species were identified, including two new ones, viz. H. ambigua Yamada, H. gracilis Luan et Ding sp.nov., H. lumbricalis (Kuetzing) Reinke and H. pulvinata Luan et Ding sp. Nov. The taxonomic characteristics of these species were described in detail with other data referring to species classification. The new species were also included a Latin’s description of these characteristics based on rule of the Code of Botanical Nomenclature. A species’ key was created at last section in order to guidance retrieval. H. gracilis Luan et Ding sp. nov. was charactered by basal creeping filaments, thin long assimilating filaments with 15~55 μm in diameter and L/B 1.3~3 in the cells of the middle and upper part, and short assimilating filaments with 10~17 cells. H. pulvinata Luan et Ding sp. nov. was charactered by distinct cushion-shaped base, many hyaline filaments with cells number of 13~20 and L/B 1.3~11, and long assimilating filaments with many branches at the base. These results will rich the macroalgae species diversity data of China seas. Holotypes were preserved in the Marine Biological Herbarium, the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (AST). |
