Abstract:
The mean shell weight (MSW) and shell size-normalized weight (SNW) of Globigerinoides ruber were investigated at Site MD06-3052 taken from the western Philippine Sea during the last 20ka. Both shell weight proxies show the same trend of lightening. The SNW proxy was more accurate than the MSW proxy in our studies, with the relatively less specimens of G. ruber preserved in the sediments. The SNW results demonstrate high values during last maximum glacial period, and low values during the Holocene. Compared with the local SST, ice-core CO2 content, The SNW curve was suggested to reflect the carbonate ion in the surface seawater, a signal of the Global CO2 content.
