Abstract:
Effects or organotin compounds, triphenyltin chloride (TPTC) and tributyltin chloride (TBTC), on photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, chlorophyll c and carotenoids) of pure cultures of two microalgae, Dicrateria zhanjiangensis and Platymonas sp., were tested from April, 1991 to January, 1992. The two species were from our departmental microalgae culture lab and batch culture was used. The results indicated that photosynthetic pigments of the two species were reduced markedly after 24h exposure to 0.5 μg/L TBTC and TPTC. The 72h Chl. a EC50, of TBTC and TPTC were both about 0.59 μg/L and the 72h carotenoids EC50, were 0.49 and 0.57 μg/L respectively for D. zhanjiangensis. The 72h Chl. a EC50 and 72h carotenoids EC50 of TBTC were 0.87 and 0.89 μg/L respectively for Platymonas sp.. Both Chl. a and carotenoids of Platymonas sp. were not reduced by TPTC to below 50% of that of the control; TBTC had more reducing effect than TPTC on photosynthetic pigments; Platymonas sp. could tolerate greater concentration of organotin than D. zhanjiangensis.
