Abstract:
In this paper, the monthly and annual characteristics of the SST of the tropical western Pacific and Indian Ocean, which have an important influence on the climate change of whole world, are analyzed using COADS, together with their relation to ENSO and the Antarctic sea ice. The result shows that the monthly and annual variations in the SST of the tropical western Pacific and Indian Ocean are significant and are different between the two regions. The result is closely related to the vibration period difference of the two regions. A better corresponding relation exists between the SST of the tropical Indian Ocean and El Nino and La Nina. The SST of the tropical western Pacific and Indian Ocean and Antarctic sea ice area has a close relation, and the Ross Sea area in particular. The outstanding correlation is that there is a 16 month SST lag for the Antarctic sea ice area.
Key words:  The Antarctic sea ice area, The SST of the tropical western Pacific and Indian Ocean, the SST of equator eastern Pacific
