Abstract:
The effects of two strains of marine bacteria isolated from sediment of Xiamen West Sea Area on the growth and PSP production of Alexandrium tamarense were studied under controlled experimental conditions. The results showed that the growth of A. tamarense was inhibited obviously by the strain S10 at high concentration, but at low concentration it has no evident effect on the growth of A. tamarense. The PSP (paralytic shellfish poison) production of A. tamarense was also inhibited by the strain S10 at different concentration especially at low concentration. The function of the strain P42 was contrary to the strain S10, the growth of A. tamarense was inhibited obviously by the strain P42 at low concentration and the PSP production of A. tamarense was inhibited by P42 at different concentrations too, especially at high concentration. The toxicity of this strain of A. tamarense was about (0.95—12.14)×10-6 MU/cell, a peak value (12.14×10-6 MU/cell) of toxicity appeared at 14th day, then decreased gradually.
