Abstract:
Using available research and historical data in the spring 2006 and 2007, the fishery oceanography of the Southern Yellow Sea was studied for understanding the migratory behavior and the distribution of Scomberomorus niphonius. Study results especially on SST show that the 10℃ isotherm is the ideal fishing season indication as it well matched best the fishing season's start. The peak amount of S. niphonius, occurred on May 1, 2006, while it was about a week earlier on April 25, 2007. The highest daily catch ranges 1000—3500kg per average boat shown in early May of the two years. Additionally, the characteristics and functions of two important fishing grounds: Dasha and Lvsi in the Southern Yellow Sea are discussed for providing basic data for fishing forecast.
