Abstract: |
In the present study, fatty acid analyzation of halibut milt was conducted by gas chromatography to provide its physiological characterization. The effect of hormone implantation on milt fatty acid composition of Atlantic halibut was also investigated. The results indicated that the majority of fatty acids in Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hipoglossus L.) milt was 22:6n-3 (docosahexanoic acid, DHA) with concentration of 25.67%±0.94%, followed by 16:0 (palmitic acid) and 20:5n-3 (eicosapentanoic acid, EPA) with concentration of 17.39%±0.23%, and 11%±0.85%, respectively. The results also showed 20:4n-6 (archidonic acid, AA) with concentration as low as 1.76%±0.01%. The proportion of total saturated fatty acids (SAT) was 27.72%±0.22%, with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) of 44.25%±0.30% and monounsaturaed fatty acids (MUFA) of 26.85%±0.51%. The ratio of DHA/EPA and EPA/AA were 2.33±0.26 and 6.30±0.51, respectively. And n-3/n-6 was found to be 9.22±0.60. The analyzation of GnRHa implanted milt indicated that the essential fatty acids (DHA, EPA, and AA) and the ratios between important fatty acid series (n-3, n-6, PUFA, and SAT) were not affected by the hormone implantation (P<0.05).
