Abstract:
Predation behaviors of planula and newly metamorphosed polyp of Rhopilema esculenta were studied by comparative experiments and microscopic observation. Planula did not ingest before metamorphosis into a polyp. The polyp could prey on planula one day after metamorphosis, predation ability quickly increase after three days, and could feed on Artemia nauplii. On the basis of the study on polyp predation behavior, we found that the development of mouth and cnidoblast were two key factors influence the feeding behavior of planula and newly polyp of R. esculenta.
