Abstract:
This paper deals with two new records species of Nassarius (Gastropoda, Nassariidae), based on the Nassariidae specimens deposited in the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences which collected in the Chinese coastal areas and Nansha Islands waters over the past years. Through the morphology and radular anatomy comparative studies, the two new records were identified belonging to genus of Nassarius: Nassarius biendongensis Kool, 2003; and Nassarius euglyptus Sowerby, 1914. The two new recorded species distributed in the East China Sea and South China Sea. The former one lives in the muddy sand bottom in the mid-tidal and low-tidal of intertidal zone, and the latter one mainly lives in the mud or muddy sand bottom in 10—200m depth. In this paper, the morphological characteristics, ecological habits and geographical distribution of the two new recorded species were studied, and comparisons were made between N. euglyptus and the similar species N. crematus. N. euglyptus with three brown bands on the body whorl, but the N. crematus with dark-brown bands in the dorsum, the body whorl more inflate, the inner lip callus expended towards body whorl, and usually cover the columella. On columellor lip are developed colllumellor folds. These characters may be used to discriminate the two similar species.
