Abstract:
Abstract We studied the seasonal distribution of nitrate concentration especially the concentration areas in the Kuroshio in the East China Sea, using the World Ocean Atlas 2009 issued by NOAA in 2010. The results show that: (1) the average nitrate concentration in the study region was high in summer and the low in winter in season, and high in the continental shelf area and low in the off coast area in space. The nitrate concentration increased with depth in the highest increasing tendency in autumn and the lowest in spring; (2) nitrate-cline and of deep water upwelling existed in 100-300m water layer. The position of nitrate-cline was shoaled with the strength of upwelling; (3) the high-concentration areas appeared in the northeast of Taiwan, the middle area of the Kuroshio, and the southwest of Kyushu. The high-concentration area and center moved in season, which is potentially high production areas, and are rich in fish resource, deserving of more attention on exploration in the future.
