| Abstract: |
| Haimen Island was once sandbars situated at about 121°25’E and 32°50’N off the Chang-Jiang River estuary in approximately 220 B. C. to 220 A. D.. It came into existence as an island in 300 A. D. under the action of both Changjiang River and Guheng River run-offs and the influence of southeastern monsoon. However, in the years around 1000 A. D., owing to the Guheng River’s abrupt closing of its course, Haimen island lost its supply of sandy mud and disappeared altogether under the attack of strong waves. |
