EFFECT OF SULFIDE INCLUSIONS ON LOCALIZED CORROSION ATTACK OF 16MnCu STEEL IN SEAWATER |
|
Abstract: |
The paper deals with the localized corrosion attack of 16MnCu steel with various sulfur contents by means of immersion in the sea water, the micro-corrosion and the electrochemical measurements. The results show that sulfides in the steel, mainly α-MnS, are preferentially attacked to the surrounding matrix, yet this preferential attack is not enough to initiate pitting. However, under tidal immersion condition, the attack becomes benificial to pitting, and moreover enables pitting to propagate along the extension direction and segregates of the sulfide inclusions. |
