ON THE EXPERIMENTAL CAGE-REARING OF THE TRUE BREAM, PAGROSOMUS MAJOR |
|
Abstract: |
This article gives the following results: 1. Pagrosomus major is an omnivorous species. Cephalopods, shrimps, shellfish, and fish are its favorite food (in the order of its preference). It feeds best when the water temperature is 8-22 ℃, does not feed when lower than 6 ℃. Its lethal temperature is 3.5 ℃. 2. The survival rate for cage-reared shrimps may reach as high as 95.8%. Growth rate is slow, but in October when water temperature is 13-19 ℃, its growth rate is faster. 3. The young fish has a faster growth rate and is much better adapted to temperature changes than the adult fish. |
